The Incredible "Grotte de la Salamandre" is one of the most beautiful caves in Europe. It opened to the public in June 2013 and will delight everyone, from tourists eager to visit it to thrill seekers !

Experience strong emotions through the four possible ways to discover the cave :
- The gabezo (unique in Europe) with its incredible panoramic view and accessible to wheelchairs ;
- The guided visit, an enthralling tour of one hour - accompanied by sound works - in the middle of the beautifully illuminated titanic concretions ;
- The Great Abseiling Descent for those seeking adrenaline rushes : 50 meters of descent to discover the huge room by entering it through its' sealing. An adventure to live with family or friends. We guaranty strong and shared emotions !
There are four possible ways to discover the cave: the gazebo accessible to wheelchairs, the "Great Abseiling Descent" to enter the cave through its ceiling, the guided tour winding between the various concretions, and finally speleology in the backstage of the cave for 2 and a half hours.

From the gazebo accessible for wheelchairs to the Great Abseiling Descent and the exciting tour, choose one of the three ways to discover this huge spa ce adorned with splendid highlighted and put into sounds concretions.

The guided tour is a more or less one hour enthralling tour in the depth of an huge underground space adorned with titanic concretions enhanced by a sound and lights setting.
As for the gazebo, it is accessible to wheelchairs and offers a breathtaking panoramic of the huge room down there, where concretions change appearance according to the coloured lights; and all in music!

For adrenaline lovers, experience the Great Down Roping: 50 meters abseiling to explore the cave from its ceiling, with friends or family.
For a family moment, 2 and a half hour of caving are also offered in the the Salamander's backstage. Fun, aesthetic and also a little sports adventure!

The snack/shop of La Salamandre offers a relaxing time at the cave: a beautiful wooden building houses a lovely boutique labeled "Militant du Goût" as well as a snack bar which products can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the unspoilt garrigue.

Openings period in 2015: from 1st March to 31st October.
The cave is accessible only by Méjannes-le-Clap.

Outside, the natural site is of great beauty. To preserve it, vehicles are left at 700m (disabled visitors are parked on-the-spot); and it's through a nice shaded path that you reach the reception facilities made of local wood and nestled on a cliff. It supports photovoltaic panels that permit the Salamander Cave to be the first one in Europe to be "lightened by the sun".
It also has a nice store of original items such as beautiful minerals from mines in the region, and a snack bar offering good products to be enjoyed on the lovely terrace overlooking the garrigue.

From March 1st to October 31st (Closed from November to late February)

- March, April and October: from 11am to 5pm

- May, June and September: from 10:30am to 6pm

- July and August: from 10am to 6:30pm

The Great Abseiling and the Backstage of the Cave on reservation only.

The cave's guided tour lasts 1 hour.
The Great Abseiling lasts 1:30 hour.

The cave is accessible only by MEJANNES-LE-CLAP.

After the parking (situated at 4 kms from the village), it’s a nice 700m footpath which brings visitors to the cave.

People with walking difficulties or wheelchair can go to the cave directly by car by following the signs “wheelchair”. They can then discover the cave thanks to the BELVEDERE (special price)!
